I am an alumna of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and served as an AmeriCorps member in Austin, Texas. I was born and raised in the Indianapolis area, so I was excited to come back home after my time away to complete my master's degree in higher education and student affairs, which was a passion I discovered during my time with AmeriCorps. Outside of work, you can find me spending time with family and friends, enjoying coffee and food around the city, and balancing being active with watching tv and movies.
As a graduate student, I was able to work part time at IUPUI. This was when I discovered more about the enriching and vast opportunities for students and this community. I felt welcomed by employees of the university and enjoyed all of the unique, hardworking students I was able to work with. When determining what was next for me, I knew I wanted to work in a welcoming environment with great people to provide transformative experiences for students. I am excited to be a part of the IUPUI community.
My first college work experience was as a customer service representative and lifeguard at the sports complex on campus. I had been a lifeguard for a few years and had already been trained, so I thought, "Why not work here!" In this role, I learned how to operate an online check-in system, enforce rules, work with others and users of the facility, and most importantly, I learned about time management. With the clock-in sheets, staff meetings, and regulations of working at the sports complex, I gained a lot of insight into job responsibilities for the future. I also had a great boss who was supportive and fun. I am grateful for this opportunity that taught me a lot of operations that I would need to know for future employment.
